End of the season
Nov. 15th, 2004 10:47 amWell, last Saturday was the last weekend of the AYSO soccer season locally. As I look back, both my little ones had a great season and really enjoyed themselves. My son looks like he’s going to be a natural at the sport. My daughter, who’s never been the fastest or most agile, has managed to adapt and got into the flow of games. Most importantly, Brenna’s been enjoying herself even if her team’s been losing consistently. I’m incredibly proud of her and how she’s progressed. Given this I’m going to have to find some way to show her that level of pride I have for her accomplishment. I’m thinking seriously about taking a good action picture of her during one of the games and blowing it up to poster or near poster size. We’ll see. Of course, I may have to do the same thing for Chris.
This weekend we tried to go on another expedition, but things didn’t quite work out. Sunday morning, we drove down to Universal Studios to view a prop sale and see if any gems were being let go. Unfortunately, by Sunday very little was left and it was entirely overpriced. Bailing out from there, we drove to Laurel Canyon Blvd. I’d read several articles about the former estate of the great magician Harry Houdini. According to what was noted in several sites, the estate was a “park-like setting surrounding the ruins of the mansion” and that the “property was not currently occupied or developed.” Sadly the notes were entirely wrong. Next time I’ll stick to my standard research technique of looking at satellite imagery (yes, I actually do this to check on location, condition and approach/exit routes). The property had a 6’ chain link fence around it, two cars in the driveway behind the fence and it was VERY well maintained. Oh well it was a nice scenic drive and we saw several celeb’s during the day’s wanderings.
