Notes and Motes

Continuing the idea of short and direct posts, let’s discuss the current photography situation. Over the past two weeks, I’ve been determined to catch up further on my editing requirements and actually limit the number of photos I’m adding to the queue. It’s a daunting task to see the light at the end of the tunnel. It’s even more daunting to leave the camera at home and not commit myself to new shoots. The creative spark is still there but if the process to capture it overwhelms the ability to properly show the results, what’s the point? Creativity for creativity’s sake is noble but damn’d expensive.
Anyhow, over the last two weeks, I’ve edited two models sets and have three to go. I edited and uploaded 5 abandoned site sets and have two more to go there. It was nice to get back into those photos again. Abandoned site exploration and photography is like a warm cozy old sweat top. It just feels right. I also edited and uploaded 4 nature sets including two large sets from the Colorado Springs trip. I won’t mention the obscene number of nature sets that I have yet to do. I’d be working on those images for the better part of a year before I ever got caught up. In consideration, I've edited and or uploaded over 500 images in the last two weeks.
I’m going to go through my DragonCon photos and upload them without editing. To keep the quality level, if they are too dark or fuzzy they’ll simply be deleted. Where I shot multiples of a given model/subject/situation, I’ll note one as primary and go from there. The ONLY exceptions to this plan are the two photo-shoots I did at the Con. Those sets will get the same loving attention that I give to all modeling sets. I also need to upload a batch or two of family photos. I guess you can say it’s all about priorities.
Shooting wise, I’m not becoming a hermit; just cutting back. Two weeks ago I travelled to the Gulf coast and had the pleasure to work with Twisted Doll on multiple sets. I have a shoot this weekend in Birmingham. Murder Doll is hopefully coming down with me to play Make-Up Artist and after the main shoot, she and I will get do an alternative shoot (time permitting). In part, this set will be to shoot images for a calendar which “Lolly Five” suggested. We’re going to try and do group photo sets for the areas the models are based in. I’m also planning to drive down to Birmingham the following weekend for the Birmingham Media Group’s fall meet and greet. It’s a networking session for photographers, models, MUAs and more.
Next week, funds permitting, I’m going to start and account with either WIX or Homesteader and build the frameworks of my website. The biggest push was having a Flash or Shockwave based site to display photos, increase my web presence and give people an easy site to find my art. The plan is to have the following main pages: Bio, Nature Photography, Show Photography, Abandoned Site Photography, Model / Personal Photography and a links page. I don’t think I want to tie a blog to the website, but we’ll see. I will have sales info for certain photos and services. I’ve let this go too long.
