Back in the early 90s Car & Driver did a story about a couple of psychotic Englishmen who built a larger trebuchet and launched an old Mini with it. It was quite spectacular.

Ages ago I saw video of one some guys built to fling *themselves* into a lake. It disintegrated on its last throw (of course) and the guy made it just far enough out into the water to not be badly hurt.
