This Saturday, at Matthews Bar and Grill in downtown Birmingham, will be this month’s version of the south’s hottest Goth/industrial/steam party. “Sleep When You’re Dead’s” theme for this Saturday night is “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” so come in your finest fairy wings, cloven hooves or with your faun’s tail in hand and enjoy the mayhem and fun. Festivities start at 9p & the shows usually get underway at 10p.

This is a treat to finally be able to offer some of the many burlesque shots that I've been shooting since last December. These are the ladies of the Magic City Sirens who perform at Sleep When You're Dead - the south's premiere Goth/Industrial/Steam dance party.

Here’s some further shots of the The Posey Peep Show from January 2009. The Posey’s version of burlesque is a mix of story, cabaret and traditional striptease with a twist of the absurd. The troupe will be traveling to New York City in a few weeks (late June) to stage a series of performances in the Big Apple. Dates are listed on their MySpace page.

I'm bad..

Back in January, I had the pleasure of attending Huntsville's self described "Absurdist Burlesque" troupe. Due to a backlog of photos and personal mayhem, I set aside the photos I took till April. That was when I finally got my other computer set up to write files to CD (again). I was going to give "Clementine" (the head of the troupe) a set of the unedited photos and be done with it. Then I forgot to take the CD-r with me to Lowe Mill for another month or so. Given this, I decided to do a complete, professional edit to the set and offer the troupe a set of high quality pics to make up for the delay. Since they do a themed show, here's the results for the old west based show "Wanted."

As mentioned in a previous “post”, back in April, I was fortunate enough to get to see Voltaire and his traveling band perform live at the Mercy Lounge in Nashville. Without a doubt it was a great show.

If you’re tired of the rains and don’t mind heading down to Birmingham, come to the hottest gothic, steam and electronic dance nights in the southeast. Did I also mention burlesque performances by the Magic City Sirens? All photos below were taken at ImagiCon 2009 where SWYD went on the road.

Just when you might have thought burlesque had disappeared from my photo journal, I 've finally gotten the time to post these shots. This is a local troupe here in Huntsville. They're creative and energetic. Permit me to introduce you to the Betty Roulette Burlesque Company!

I'm planning to drive up for this show come Hell or high water. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.

For folks who are unfamiliar with Volataire, he is legendary for his sarcastic goth folk music. He wrote and performed the song "Brains!" for the "Grimm Adventures of Billy and Mandy" and regularly fills 3000 seat halls for shows (especially at DragonCon). Check out his website for info on the show http://www.myspace.com/voltairenyc.

Last month, Sleep When You’re Dead Productions and the Magic City Sirens put on another dark, fun, chaotic show at Matthews Bar and Grill in Birmingham. These are some lovely examples of that mayhemic happenstance then and yet to come - this weekend!

Last weekend, [livejournal.com profile] e_phemera and I went to the Sleep When You're Dead show in Brimingham. She made a special cake for the producer Heathra. Without a doubt this cake blew away anything I've every seen. It was inspired in the manner of the advertisement they posted for the show (below) though she took a minor creative license.

After a bit of an unplanned break in posting these, here’s a few more shots from “Tits for Tots.” Perhaps in a little while, the burlesque show producer will permit me to put some of those photos up (exclusive release agreement).

Back in December, I had the opportunity to attend and shoot a wonderful regional goth / fetish / burlesque / belly dance performance in Birmingham. In fact, I believe I’ve established a good working relationship with the producer Venus and Bacchus Productions. The show is called “Sleep When You’re Dead.” The next 'episode' is on February 21st at Matthews Bar and Grill in the Loft District of Birmingham.

The show is called “Sleep When You’re Dead” and that month’s installment was charity themed, “Tits for Tots”, where donated toys and funds went to the local juvenile burn center in Birmingham. I met some great folks there and saw some tremendous dancing both on stage and the dance floor. With luck, I’ll be shooting this show as their official (paid) photographer in February.

Tribal dancers of the “Ultra Hip Review” performed twice during the evening. Passionate, silky and fiery would describe them well.

Folks I just got a message from the ladies of Vermillion Lies that their Los Angeles show at the Tangier has been cancelled on the 22nd.
jjmaccrimmon: (Default)
On November the 22nd, the perfomance duo "Vermillion Lies" will be in Los Angeles for a show at the Tangier w/Agent Ribbons (http://www.tangierrestaurant.net/info.php). The show starts at 8pm. If you haven't heard of Vermillion Lies, check them out at:

www.vermillionlies.com
or
http://www.myspace.com/vermillionlies

Vermillion Lies could best be described as a cross between Creature Feature and Voltaire with a touch of wild Vaudevillian mayhem. If you can make time available, go see these ladies.
