Notes and Motes from the road
Jan. 28th, 2011 10:26 pmThis trip has been interesting so far. I've worked my arse off so far and logged more than a bit of overtime so far. Yesterday I ended up being the lead engineer presenting to the foriegn customers on this test. I wasn't planning to or expecting to, but all the government folks looked at me and said, 'you're the expert' or 'you wrote the document, you should brief.' I also locked horns with the lead engineer who's "supposed to be" supporting us as a liason between the customer and us. He's been actively trying to sabatoge our branch's involvement. Instead he discovered that I'm fairly good at what I do and I disabled his arguments before he could make them.
I'm off tomorrow and part of Sunday. I already planning to hit several of my old favorite haunts here in SoCal. Right now, I'm planning to head to Descanso Gardens, The Getty Center, dinner in Van Nuys and then catch a show in Studio City. It'll be like the old days - well sorta. On Sunday, I'm planning to revisit several abandoned sites in the area before I have to be back for a teleconference (yes I have to work then). Damn it's going to feel good to visit some familiar places.
Unlike the previous trip, many of the old ghosts I felt lurking in the air seem gone now. It's almost like a cloud lifted when I realized/resolved that I'd forgiven someone. Whether it was deserved or not, I don't have the time or energy to nurse that kind of hate or anger. That didn't stop me from glancing at her journal to look in on her life. I guess it was a mix of catious and melancholy curiousity. Shrugs - you can't change the past, only learn from it and try to understand. Memories linger and soften but life moves on. Like Scott Pilgrim, I fought hard to earn another life and I'm using it well. I hope she is too.
I'm not sure I'm going to make it to Lancaster on this particular visit. That's going to be a full day. The Sheriff hasn't gotten the paperwork from the clerk so they can't lock them out yet. If I'm here, I want to be here for that. Again, morbid curiousity - its a Goth thing. I'm looking forward to visiting old friends (living and deceased), but I want to have enough time to do so. When I get back into town on the 6th, I know I'll have a few more free days then.
BTW, I'm now cross linking most of my Live Journal entries to Facebook. I've been testing out the process with the Nature Photo of the Day feature. I can't afford to double the work.

Pretty Things Peepshow
Dec. 5th, 2010 04:53 pmBack in early November, I was invited to attend a traveling burlesque show in Birmingham, AL. The Pretty Things Peepshow is based out of NYC. I was pleased to see Katarina Laveaux (of the Magic City Sirens). I was happy to shoot alongside
martinhesselius. I was even pleasantly surprised to see Professor Aero and Ruby Woo.
The show was tremendous.

Sorry folks, I just found this out today. Due to a number of circumstances, including a death in the SWYD extended family, SWYD has announced there will be no show until after New Years.
Venus & Bacchus Productions ....SWYD in cancelled until the new year....we'll be back in January.

Remember, this Saturday is All Hallows Eve and time for the next Sleep When You're Dead at Matthews Bar and Grill in Birmingham.

At the last Sleep When You're Dead, Jezabelle von Jane put on a rousing "solo" burlesque performance. She brought up two volunteers from the audience to assist her with a classic fan dance. At the end, she allowed one lucky young lady to do her own performance as well. I can only image what mayhem the rest of the Magic City Sirens have planned for this edition.

After a scheduling glitch cancelled the September edition of Sleep When You're Dead, I'm so seriously looking forward to this show.

Poster features model "Victorian Mourning" who I will be featuring in a set of photos next week.
( Aren't sure you'll like the show? Check out the crowds from the last one! )

The Magic City Sirens are the resident burlesque troupe at SWYD. The only problem is getting them all together for a group photo except on stage. When given the opportunity to herd the cats together, I jumped at it. In fact, I climbed on top of a bar stool to get this group shot. The rest are curtain calls and candids from the June show.

“Spyder” of Pyro Salto is only half of the performance team, but this particular evening, she was solo. Spyder is also heavily part of the Steampunk community of Alabama. She performed an interpretive dance set at ImagiCon. Oh yes, those photos are also coming very, very soon.

Pyro Salto is a graceful, energetic and certainly hot fire act from the Birmingham area. In this case, only half the duet was performing. Ladies and Gents, presenting “Spyder”

Posey Peep Show (Part 2)
Jun. 1st, 2009 03:53 pmHere’s some further shots of the The Posey Peep Show from January 2009. The Posey’s version of burlesque is a mix of story, cabaret and traditional striptease with a twist of the absurd. The troupe will be traveling to New York City in a few weeks (late June) to stage a series of performances in the Big Apple. Dates are listed on their MySpace page.

Posey Peep Show (Part 1)
May. 27th, 2009 09:24 pmI'm bad..
Back in January, I had the pleasure of attending Huntsville's self described "Absurdist Burlesque" troupe. Due to a backlog of photos and personal mayhem, I set aside the photos I took till April. That was when I finally got my other computer set up to write files to CD (again). I was going to give "Clementine" (the head of the troupe) a set of the unedited photos and be done with it. Then I forgot to take the CD-r with me to Lowe Mill for another month or so. Given this, I decided to do a complete, professional edit to the set and offer the troupe a set of high quality pics to make up for the delay. Since they do a themed show, here's the results for the old west based show "Wanted."
