Last month, I drove up to Porterville and spent a day with my good friend Monica. It was one of the reasons my Mojave Golf Course photos were a bit rushed (as pointed out to me). Before having a wonderful dinner and great conversation, we drove up into the Sierra Nevada Mountains and took in the scenery.

Come with me to the mountains…

Reflections of late fall sun

We drove a fair distance up into the mountains to a high bridge almost to Camp Nelson.

Black oak, turned to aspen and all changed their coats in readiness for the coming snows

As we traveled higher, she showed me a hot spring along the edge of the road, and this set of stairs that led to it.

Hot water bubbled to the surface laden with iron (hence the red)

A spring in the foreground and a small waterfall (cooler) in the background

As we drove back down the mountain side, the sun began to set over the ridges ahead of us.

The last rays
