After yesterday’s collapse of Live Journal (due to a power failure), hopefully everyone is not playing too much in the way of catch up.
When we left the Greystone Café, we bypassed around the Marine Logistics Center and got back onto old Route 66. We were well rewarded. Between Barstow and Daggett are more than a few ruins but they are tucked a fair distance off the highway long ago washed out or blocked driveways. Some seem to cling to their existence despite the harsh conditions here.

This former saloon (brothel) screamed character.

Steps of the patio

Face

Even though the place had been in ruins for some time, people seemed to still be using it. A pizza box, ice cream bucket and to the left a package of rotten salmon

And then there was the graffiti inside.

Both of these had the remains of beds in them

A little further up the road and a shorter hike, we found another ranch house (#34511)

As we approached Daggett, we found a forlorn refugee of the modern era.

Damage was extensive inside but graffiti greatly limited

Here’s the reason why. From here, we turned back towards home and savored our finds and fun of the day.
