This is an excerpt of a customer service message I sent to the corporate HQ of Another Broken Egg regarding their Huntsville restaurant on Jones Valley Rd after a visit for brunch this past Sunday..

Never again! This is a sentiment that my family and I uttered as we left the Huntsville location. Over the past two years, I’ve taken my family to Another Broken Egg less and less. This past Sunday’s experience closed the door for me. My principal complaint was on the speed of the service and quality of service or lack of.

After a 30 minute wait to get a table for my family, once we were seated, we faced another 10 minute wait for our waitress to pay enough attention come take our drink orders. It took 10 minutes for her to come out with two sodas, a sweet tea, coffee & a juice. Yes they were busy but these were simple orders. It got worse..

When drinks came out, are ordered our brunch keeping it simple as well. From that point it took over 40 minutes for our meal of two Banana’s Foster, a kid’s French toast and two egg dishes to come out. For the next 40 minutes plus, I had to flag down our waitress several times to get refills because she would not regularly check our table. Yes, it was busy, not she had time to stand behind or beside the bar to chat and joke with the man tending the bar at the restaurant. We watched two tables seated after us receive their meals (and regular service) well before we got ours. We finally asked for the manager to try and discover why our meal was ‘flagged’ for slow service. His explanation was that he’d effectively opened his patio for dining and yet then admitted he didn’t have a full staff AND was short a cook. He assured us that he’d make up for the slow service on the bill. It never happened.

After our food finally came out, our waitress continued to ignore or forget to bring out necessities for the meal until it was too late to do any good. Our toddler ate most of his French toast without syrup because it took so long to get it brought out.

One other thing that struck me was that apparently a current or former employee of ABE Café was seated with his family behind us. Why would this be notable? On at least three occasions I watched him enter the kitchen area to get foods, condiments or (surprisingly) his check for the meal. Given that he wasn’t in uniform and had not washed up prior to any of these ‘visited’ I believe this was a health code violation.

We finally finished and got our check (the quickest visit by our waitress yet that meal), nearly 2 1/2 hours after arriving there. The manager’s assurance to “make things right on the bill” never occurred and we given a full price check. Rather than wait for another 10 to 20 minutes for your manager or waitress to deem us worth attention, I paid my $63.49 bill and left without leaving a tip.

I will not come back to this restaurant and I will now tell my friends and associates to avoid your restaurant. Perhaps I should also forward this message to the local weekly (The Valley Planet) and let them know their rating of Another Broken Egg Café as the #2 Brunch spot in Huntsville was in error. In this case it referred to the shitty service. I will never waste my money at this restaurant again.

*** Normally I don't do reviews of restaurants and businesses especially when I'm angry. This is an exception and one that I actually decided to wait a few days to calm my temper over it.***

The service was unacceptable. Especially seeing other people getting service when you are not. That just adds to your frustration.
Been there...so I understand. ~hugs~

I'd definitely send it to them.

I went to ABE when I was home for the holiday's...... It was simply okay. I'm so used to having a wide array of options of places to eat. This is the issue in Huntsville. The ONLY places that survive are corporate and less than good. Everytime a local place tries to offer breakfast or brunch, they end up having to stop after a short period of time because no one shows up! I know this from experience!!!! This is something that my Mom complains about atleast once a week. Huntsville's food selections are not up to par! BUT how the hell do you fix that? Everyone boycotts the places that are just okay and starts to visit local eateries, but this isn't going to happen.... The Chef's Table just closed recently. This had been one of my families favorite restaurants for years. All we can say is, "Another bites the dust". 801 Factory isn't that far behind them. What is the answer?

I'm sorry you had this experience. It sucks when you leave the house ready for a good time with decent food and you pull back into the driveway pissed and still hungry. :)

I'll be realy interested to know the outcome. Well-written letters do get results.
