Music on the personal level
Buying the Sirius Radio has been one of the best entertainment investments in a while. THe selection of music, comedy and news has been refreshing compared to the local radio.

Chris’s Mp3 player and replacement
After almost two years, Chris’s Mp3 player died following his trip to the UK. The battery failed and it dumped the firmware. It was built like most players. The battery on most of these will only last for 2 to 3 years. He got a lot out of that one. I replaced it with a Philips Songbird (4Mb). Initially I bought him an iPod Shuffle (same cost) but it wouldn’t hold as much music. He seems to like it so far though I’m a little stunned by how slow it was to sync up to the playlist he has. I’m pleasantly surprised at how well and how long my iPod has lasted. While it’s showing wear, I have the feeling that it has a bit more life left to it.

Clockwork Cotillion and Observations
Last Saturday was the 2nd Clockwork Cotillion in Huntsville. This occurred in the theater of the Flying Monkey. It should come as no surprise that Brenna attended with the crew. Much to everyone’s surprise (including my own), I took Chris and Tammy to it (though Tammy sat outside). The only reason I went to anything having to do with the FMAC was to support the Steampunk community here in the area and the crew of the Revenger. While I got to chat with a few folks and the performance were great, I left with a foul taste in my mouth on several levels.

It was awkward in many respects just being there. Anna Sue of FMAC gave me the stink-eye the moment she saw me, but said nothing. Most members of the Revenger crew seemed very standoffish and would barely speak a word to me. One who I'd mentored and considered family refused to acknowledge I was there at all. It reminded me of a very uncomfortable Great Western War several years ago when the Companions of the Cross and Dragon melted down. I found out that some of them were angry with me still for keeping Brenna away from the Artistic Market. In some respects, I think this is related to her complaints that I was being unreasonable. Mayhap they don't see certain folks turning my own daughter against me or see the vitriol being said in the background. I know that they certainly didn't understand the potential of legal liabilities and for further trouble. What started as misunderstandings between myself and FMAC, has poisoned the well many drank deeply from.

Ironically, the friendliest folks in attendance were the non- or former crew members. They greeted me warmly and chatted freely. I think this reinforces my desire to remain increasingly neutral in the local steam community.
