jjmaccrimmon: (Me - Sloss Steam)
Greetings folks,

Here’s the final installment in the Huntsville Steam Meet-up

This past weekend, airship cargo relocation specialists, adventurers, and raggamuffins from the mid-south descended upon the Historic Huntsville (Alabama) Train Depot and Museum. In fact on very short notice of only a week or so, 17 of us appeared at the request of Tomas, Captain of the Airship (AS) Revenger.

Snacks were served, robberies occurred and duels were heard. It was a fun afternoon. Many a photo was taken so I'm going to break these up into 3 posts to avoid hurting folks with low bandwidth modems.

On about two weeks notice, [livejournal.com profile] batwinged and I put together a small but fun meet and greet at the nation’s only remaining and preserved 19th century blast furnace. Sloss Furnaces in Birmingham, Alabama is a National Landmark and a state park. If you should ever make it there, I’d wholeheartedly encourage it. Seven of us braved sunny skies and temperatures in the low 70’s F (upper 20’s C) to wander the site and get photos here and there. My normal mode would have been to shoot a few and then get unobserved shots, but well, can’t do that when hosting :)

Hopefully we’ll get to do this again next year.

Greetings folks,

After much discussion and a bit of creative afternoon planning [livejournal.com profile] batwinged and I would like to invite steamy folks within driving distance downtown Birmingham, Alabama to join us at historic Sloss Furnaces for an afternoon of fun, frolic and fotos. If you’re tired of normal holiday mayhem, come out on Saturday, December 27th from 11am (CST) till we feel cold and stupid at the nation’s only preserved 19th century (working) blast furnace.

Though the furnaces aren’t scheduled for a run that weekend, the prospects of showing off, meeting other steamers and getting photos done should heat things up nicely. We will try to gather at 12 noon for group photos tentatively at the Museum Store to move to a selected site. For those not familiar with Sloss, Wikipedia offers a great overview and Wikimapia offers a view of how unique the site is.

If the weather proves to be too inclement to tour and shoot, we will move the gathering a local pub/grill in the nearby historic district of Birmingham for food, drinks and photo mayhem.

If you’re interested and plan to attend, please either reply here, message me privately or via my e-mail (jjmaccrimmon-at-gmail-(dot)-com). I know it’s short notice and falls between the holidays, but what better to celebrate the season?

May your brass goggles stay polished!

Ladies and gents, the third shoot I did this month was with a truly amazing newcomer who goes by the nickname of "Imp." This was her first shoot and was supposed to be a test to check lighting and do a few costume shots. It grew a bit though. We did more because honestly, I was concerned that the amazing young lady was going to be moving away and not returning. As is I don't know whether I'll get the chance to work more with her. That seems up in the air.

Rather than post a stream of photos of the show in sequence, I've split them up with individual highlights by member of the band.
